Discover the world of Portuguese food & wine, 2-hours
Yes, a great secret is hard to keep quiet and this is certainly the case with Portuguese wines, which are the newest trend among wine aficionados and value-oriented wine-lovers alike. A new breed of Portuguese winemakers have been hard at work over the last 25 years, and they are sweeping up International competitions and recognition at wine Expos from New York to Japan.
?
This tasting takes place in a cozy and rustic wine house in the old quarter of Alfama where you can share in conversation with other travelers, or just immerse yourself in the wine maps and materials provided by our passionate and knowledgeable experts. Start with the crisp refreshing whites like Vinho Verde or jump right in to the smooth dried fruit and jammy reds. The evening’s selection is paired with locally produced foodstuffs that will seduce your pallet with tempting and savory flavors.
Most of the wines presented are by small to medium sized winemakers which rarely appear in wine shops outside of Portugal. These wines represent old-traditional wine making techniques like foot pressing and midnight harvesting.
What you will learn: Discuss other restaurants around the city where authentic Portuguese can be found. Learn the DOC wine growing regions of Portugal. Discover how the Portuguese influenced winemaking worldwide. Understand the types of Port wine, and varietals unique to Portugal, and much more about the sights around Lisbon.
Evening includes: Four glasses of select reds and whites, shared plates of artisan cheeses, meats, fruit preserves, olive oils and bread. Plus maps, wine lists and handouts to help you with finding your favorite Portuguese wines when you return home. Additional glasses of wine or food items may be purchased independently by each guest as they wish.
Please be aware that the hearty portions of local foodstuffs which accompany this evening are often a replacement for dinner, or it will hold off larger appetites until the traditionally late Portuguese dinner hour of 9:30pm.

The DOC wine growing regions of Portugal, the 6 types of Port wine, how the Portuguese influenced winemaking around the world, varietals unique to Portugal, how different wines are made, and much more.
